Jaipur: Feted with best airport award by Airports Authority of India (AAI) recently, the city airport plans it turning into one-of-its kind airport in entire north and west India.
The plan also embodies building two new buildings for future domestic terminal. Both new buildings (which will take care of arrival and departure) are proposed to be built alongside the future international terminal. While, the existing domestic terminal is proposed to become international (central) terminal, left and right buildings will cater to domestic passengers’ arrival and departure.
The airport plans converting the existing swanky domestic Terminal 2 into international terminal and adding two more buildings to come up with a new domestic terminal. A complete revamp and restructuring plan for Jaipur Airport worth Rs 411 crore has been drawn to build a model airport. The plan, which was cleared at the meeting of stakeholders of Jaipur Airport on Monday, envisages transforming the existing Terminal 2 (which solely caters to domestic airport) into international terminal.
“The plan also envisages building four new abridges and four new conveyor belts to add to the existing two conveyor belts and abridges,” Jaipur Airport director D Paul Manickam told DNA. Also, proposed is a multi-story vehicle parking on the lines of Delhi and Chennai airports. Besides the airport director, representatives of state government, state chamber of commerce, state civil aviation department and different airliners attended the meeting.
The proposal envisaging a cost of Rs 411 crore, will be sent to the Airport Economic Regulatory Authority for clearance, as any AAI project worth over Rs 50 crore is to be sanctioned by it only.
